My Story
I've been writing poems since I was about eight years old, growing up in Puerto Rico. I started writing stories at age ten. I wrote my first play in high school. I studied playwriting while an undergraduate at Yale, all the while continuing my poetry and story writing.

After college, I focused on a career in nonprofit work, first teaching Head Start for 2 years, then working for an environmental education youth organization, moving on to starting an after school and summer program for a local organization, eventually also starting up a family economic success program. I then went to graduate school at Columbia for my Masters in Social Work, which landed me in my current position, working in health justice.

I love my day job, but as life experiences have stacked up, I have wanted to return to my writing practice for some time. Now in my 40's, I'm working to rekindle the flame and get back into it.
"The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say."
